Research

For your business to work for you you have to do research. Big time research not just 15 minutes and throw a web page up with a couple of affiliate links and expect to make any money. It ain't gonna happen that way. This is what a lot of people do in this business and then they make nothing and tell everyone they tried and made nothing and that Internet marketing is just a scam.

There are different types of research you have to do as an Internet Marketer or Affiliate Marketer. You have research your market. Find a hungry market and you are in the money. Find a hungry market and give them what they want. The way to do this is to hang around forums of the market you are interested in. See what the complaints are, see what they are looking for then find it and give it to them. Lets use the hunting niche again. You are hanging around forums for this niche and realize that these people are all looking for a specific rifle scope and can't find it. Being the savvy marketer you are, you do some research and find a company through CJ that offers a nice 15% commission on a $200.00 product. That is about $30.00 to you for each sale. That is just one type of research there is a few different kinds of research and different ways of doing it. There is niche research, keyword research, product research, affiliate program research, researching the competition. I know it sounds like a lot but all of it should only take a couple of hours and you will be surprised what you may find. You may even find other niches to market to. Niche research is just what I discussed above. Most marketers start out with niches they are passionate about. It could be your job, hobby a sport etc. It is easier to start off with something you know about.

A lot of new marketers will start with Clickbank products. They are digital products. You set up a review page reviewing 3 or 4 products, get your link from Clickbank, put it into your reviews a few times and you are up and running. Now you need to promote your page. Ok we have touched on niche research by hanging around forums, find out what they want and give it to them.

Next you should research competition and check to see if there are any affiliate programs. So if you are doing a certain hunting rifle scope you would type the product name into the Google search bar and see what comes up. Check out at least the top 10 sites, I usually do the top 20. Read them check out how they are made which will give you ideas on how you may want to build your site. You can't copy anyone else's site but if you see a nice layout that may spark some ideas for your site. Check the whole site over looking for an affiliate link. If you want to market this companies products and they have a good program join.

Now you have a niche and a few affiliate programs you need to research keywords. I use the Google keyword tool. You type a keyword in the search bar of the keyword tool say hunting rifle scopes and the tool will return a list of related words. You want to find high search volume low competition keywords to build your pages around. If you do a Google search you can find plenty of keyword research tools, free and paid for. Like I said I like the Google tool but there is free and paid for Wordtracker, and a host of others. Keyword Elite is a great tool that most marketers use. This whole process should not take but a couple of hours at the most. Once you learn what to look for and know what you are doing you can get this done pretty quick. The more you research the better off you will be.
